The Tattoo Process
What Does Having A Tattoo Involve?
The Body Preparation.
As by now you'll have choosen both the design and where you're going to have it the first real step in getting your tattoo can start.
The area of body where the tattoo is to go needs to be cleaned, usually with rubbing alcohol as this both cleans and degreases the skin. Next the area will be shaved as even the smallest of hairs can hinder the tattooing process. The skin will be cleaned once more and then the next step can begin.
Applying The Stencil.
Most tattooists now use thermal paper to apply the stencil. Your chosen design will have been printed onto the paper and then your skin will be moistened and the paper stencil applied. When it is pulled away from the skin the outline of your design will be left visable.
Doing The Outline (Line Work).
A bit of lubricant will then be applied over the stenciled area. This is to help the needle glide over the skin more easily and to help stop the transfer being rubbed off while working on the design. The tattooing will now commence.
Doing The Shading And Colouring.
Once the outline has been completed the tattoo can be filled in. This process is less painful than the outlining and can go quite quickly especially if you've only got a small tattoo.
Finished.
Now the tattoo is complete. The tattoo artist will clean up the area before applying ointment and a bandage will be taped in place to protect your new tattoo. At this point you will be handed your aftercare instructions.
